Inga Barks
Named by Talkers Magazine as one of America's most influential talk hosts,
Bakersfield born Inga Barks is proud to be a local talk host on her hometown station,
KERN.

Inga started in talk radio in 1993 when she was looking for a job that could allow her
to be available to her children. KERN was a dream come true, as she had been
listening to the station since elementary school. As a talk host on KERN, Inga has
interviewed and developed long term relationships with great Americans of politics
and talk radio. Including KERN's Sean Hannity (who calls Bakersfield "Inga Barks
territory" and included her in his New York times best selling book), Ollie North, Mark
Levin, White House spokesperson Tony Snow, and Fox's Neil Cavuto. Inga has been
invited to the Whitehouse twice and has interviewed President Bush, and Vice
President Cheney (actually, she only interviewed the veep once. The second
interview she gave to her 7 year old son). Inga has interviewed Karl Rove, Newt
Gingrich, Ted Nugent and Charlie Daniels,  and a long list of congressman, Senators
and assemblyman. She holds the distinct honor of being the only Bakersfield talk
host to be escorted off a college campus at the demand of former governor Gray
Davis, and having governor Schwarzenegger wag his finger (or perhaps it was a
cigar) in her face at a dinner in his Brentwood estate. She also takes pride in being
quite literally hated by phony republicans in Kern County and phonies in local media.
She takes personal pride in being instrumental in changing state law. Inspired by the
bravery of a 14 year old rape victim, Inga and KERN radio, followed the victim and
state senator Ashburn from Bakersfield to Sacramento, to national radio and
television.  Dylan's law was passed, thanks to the diligence of Dylan and the radio
listeners who relentlessly demanded justice. The Inga Barks Show was the first to
honor our soldiers in Iraq with a support the troops rally and concert one day after
"shock and awe" began. Thousands came to give their love and support to those
fighting for our country. One of those soldiers would be Private First Class Ramon
Villatorro II. He was killed in July 2005, leaving behind his 19 year old pregnant wife.
Amanda Villatorro inspired everyone in the KERN audience, who threw her a baby
shower and started a fund on her behalf. Today little Ramon III is surrounded by
supporters and community members invested in his future and the legacy of his
father. That's why KERN is leading the way in fund raising for the Kern Veterans
memorial fund, which will honor Ramon and all those who came before him.
The Inga Barks show is a regular supporter of Kern County law enforcement and the
volunteer Search and Rescue team. KERN not only raises money when they can, but
Inga goes training with the SAR team including river rafting on the upper river and
repelling (though she's scared of heights).
With  a history in theater and inprov, Inga's favorite part of radio is the unexpected;
the callers. And with a lifetime of opening her mouth and removing all doubt, you can
count on frank and honest conversation on her show, and she enjoys the same from
her listeners. Speaking of the unknown, every Friday you can hear Inga with her co
worker Scott Cox, in what audiences have come to love as the "Friday Free for All".
It's an evil blend of insanity and information. Also, KERN has been the launching pad
for Inga's three year stint as a TV commentator, and host of a radio program in
Fresno. But home remains in a studio in Bakersfield.
Inga is a graduate of South high, with a degree from Cal State Bakersfield. She lives
with her husband Michael, teenage son Solomon, and tween twins Samuel and
Joshua. She and her family attend Valley Baptist church and yes, they really do use,
frequent, own, and adore the products she endorses on her show.
